The HAMM Lab
Heart and Muscle
Mechanics
Our group is interested in the sarcomere protein interactions involved in the activation
and regulation of cardiac and skeletal muscle. Our studies, at both the isolated
protein and cellular levels, use a wide variety of biophysical, mathematical,
molecular biology and engineering approaches. Information from these studies is used to decide therapeutic themes to treat cardiac and skeletal muscle disease.
News and Events
- Undergraduates Katie Buckley, Alice Ward, and Jordan Kuester are carrying on the HAMM lab tradition of excellence in research. All three have received Mary Gates Scholarships for the 2007-2008 academic year.
- Congratulations to former HAMM Lab member Dr. Bert Tanner who successfully defended his dissertation on November 13, 2007. Dr. Tanner is now a senior fellow at the University of Vermont.
- Congratulations to former HAMM Lab member Dr. Kareen Kreutziger who successfully defended her dissertation on November 1, 2007. Update: Dr. Kreutziger will begin her post-doctoral studies at the Murry Laboratory in the Department of Pathology, UW on February 1, 2008.
- Two HAMM lab writing teams, Gillis et al. and Kreutziger et al., have been invited to write articles for Physiological News
based on their recent publications in The Journal of Physiology. This is an unprecedented achievement and a testiment to the
quality of the science produced by the HAMM lab.
